Winslow Show – Wonderful Winslow Winners

August Bank Holiday -  Monday 25th August 2008

Winslow Show proves solid gold for visitors, competition winners and local charities. Winslow celebrated a hugely successful country show this bank holiday as provisional fundraising figures reached over £14,000. An increase of £2,000 over last year’s Show and an indication of the growing visitor numbers to the show.

Year on year the show plans to get bigger and better by offering something new for visitors, whilst still providing its popular traditional activities and entertainment.

This year, show highlights included sheep displays, the horse show, a larger number of craft and charity stalls, an appearance by 17.2 hh heavy horse – Ted Clydesdale, the popular novelty dog shows, Winslow Concert Band, Punch and Judy and the vintage and classic car parade followed by an Olympics themed fancy dress competition.

This year’s fancy dress parade was won by Winslow Playgroup and Treetops Playgroup as joint team winners, Celia and Megan Havery won the best girl’s fancy dress and Dylan and Leo Standring won the boy’s fancy dress class.

The tug of war was won by The Swan public house team who beat off The George public house team and Young Farmers.

The show-jumping competition, gymkhana and dog shows were hotly contested by a high number of entrants. The ‘Veteran Horse’ class was won by Laura Critchley riding Pendley Masquarade whilst the ‘Young Handler’ was won by Jessica Pierce with Master Bertie. In the dog show Henry, owned by Mr J Rush, won ‘waggiest tail’ competiton for the third year running. A full list of winners is available on Winslow Show website www.winslowshow.org.uk.

“This year’s show was a fantastic success. Everyone has been waiting for some dry weather and a reason to get out and celebrate and Winslow Show was a great hit. Visitors started coming in droves from 10.00 onwards and by mid afternoon there were queues to get into the showground.
